One of the most auspicious astrological events of the century is upon us this July, and I can’t stop thinking about it. I’m definitely not the only one. Astrologers around the world have been talking about it because it marks the rare and much-anticipated alignment of the outer planets known as Barbault’s Basket.
Barbault’s Basket is a rare planetary configuration that perfects on July 20 (GMT+8). On that day, Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, and Jupiter will all align at 4 degrees of the air and fire signs, forming a geometric pattern that resembles a basket. This configuration is named after the late French mundane astrologer André Barbault, who was the first to identify and describe this rare alignment.
This is the same astrologer who predicted the 2020 pandemic nearly a decade in advance, among many other forecasts. It only makes sense that astrologers continue to look to him for clues about what may lie ahead. Sadly, he passed away in 2019, before many of his predictions came to pass.
This is what he wrote about the Basket in his book Planetary Cycles, Mundane Astrology:
It is the most beneficent, and its interplanetary partnership will work for the best in a splendid relaunch of civilization. It contains a harmonious relationship between primordial opposites. The coming together of the external and the internal, rational and spiritual, mind and soul. Human beings surpassing themselves while experiencing life on a higher level.
I know what you might be thinking. I had my own doubts, too, when I first encountered this. How could this possibly be a positive moment, considering everything happening in the world right now? It’s difficult to imagine civilization suddenly taking a turn for the better within the next three weeks. Honestly, it’s a hard pill to swallow.
When André Barbault made these predictions in 2011, he had no way of knowing the specific events that would unfold in our world today. He simply observed the synodic cycles of the planets and the historical patterns that accompanied them. Whatever he saw in those cycles was compelling enough to make such a bold forecast. I believe it deserves our attention as well. Perhaps the world as we know it is about to experience a reset. But maybe it won’t unfold in the way most of us expect.
I don’t think the world will transform overnight, although it’s possible. This configuration may instead serve as a trigger point or a seeding moment whose true significance will only become clear in hindsight. Astrological configurations like this rarely reveal their full effects on the exact day they perfect. More often, they unfold over the days, weeks, and even years that follow.
I do believe, though, that something is approaching that will make us realize that enough is enough and compel us to make profound changes. I’ve been feeling it in my body lately, even though my mind cannot yet name what it is. I feel we are approaching a pivotal choice point in human history.
Whatever choices we make as a collective may determine whether the Barbault’s Basket fulfills the promise André Barbault saw within it.
The Astrology of Opportunity
On July 20 (GMT+8), Pluto will be at 4° Aquarius, Neptune at 4° Aries, Uranus at 4° Gemini, and Jupiter at 4° Leo. This is big. Every time the slower-moving planets form a major aspect, they don’t arrive as a whisper but as a loud bang. Together, they create a rare geometric pattern known as Barbault’s Basket.

But why is it considered so auspicious?
Symbolically, the basket is a vessel for receiving blessings. Astrologically, it is composed primarily of sextiles and trines, two of the most harmonious and supportive aspects.
Let’s begin with the sextiles. A sextile occurs when two planets are 60 degrees apart. On July 20, the four outer planets will be linked by a network of sextiles. In the Basket, Pluto sextiles Neptune, Neptune sextiles Uranus, and Uranus sextiles Jupiter. Sextiles often bring opportunities for growth, advancement, and new possibilities, but they require our participation. They open doors, yet we still have to choose to walk through them.
Now let’s look at the trines. A trine forms when planets are 120 degrees apart. It is considered one of the most harmonious aspects in astrology because the planetary energies flow naturally, often requiring little effort on our part. This configuration contains two major trines: Pluto trine Uranus and Jupiter trine Neptune. Together, they suggest breakthroughs, meaningful synchronicities, and positive developments that unfold with greater ease.
These planetary combinations have appeared during major turning points in history. When Pluto and Jupiter formed a conjunction in 2020, at the height of the pandemic, governments around the world responded with large financial aid programs. The last Pluto-Uranus trine occurred in 1921, when breakthroughs in quantum physics began reshaping our understanding of reality.
While history never repeats itself exactly, these cycles suggest that similar themes may emerge in different forms.
Overall, this pattern points to a rare moment of opportunity and momentum. The planets appear to support one another, creating opportunities for change. But because the Basket is built mostly on sextiles, its potential depends on our participation. The opportunities are there. The support is there. Whether we receive them depends on the choices we make.
A Collective Initiation
When I psychically tune in to this configuration of outer planets, I sense that humanity is approaching an initiation, a major rite of passage for the collective. In fact, one of the cards I drew during my contemplations was the Hanged Man in the Tarot.

The Hanged Man reminds me of shamanic initiations in which something must be sacrificed to gain wisdom, power, or a new perspective. It suggests a period of surrender in which our old worldview can no longer sustain us. It feels as though something eventually has to give, and letting go of what is familiar may be difficult on many levels. In Norse mythology, for example, Odin hanged himself for nine days and nine nights on the World Tree, Yggdrasil, to gain the magical knowledge of the runes. Although the ordeal was grueling, he emerged transformed, wiser, and more powerful than before.
It makes me wonder what price the collective has to pay for this initiation. What would we have to lose, and what would we gain? And in the end, will it be worth it?
What keeps coming to me is that something may be revealed under this sky. It could leave many of us deeply unsettled (Pluto) or profoundly shocked (Uranus), ultimately leading to either disillusionment or enlightenment (Neptune). It reminds me of how profound shock or trauma can sometimes trigger a spontaneous kundalini awakening, radically altering the way a person experiences reality. We may find ourselves suspended between old certainties and new possibilities, much like the Hanged Man himself.
Once that veil has been lifted, there is no returning to the old way of seeing. We may no longer be able to tolerate the mediocrity, manipulation, or false narratives that the system has fed us for so long. Instead, we may find ourselves trusting our own inner knowing, or gnosis (Jupiter), more than external authority.
The astrology supports this interpretation because the Basket contains more than harmonious aspects. Pluto in Aquarius will be opposite Jupiter in Leo. An opposition is one of the most challenging aspects in astrology because the two planets are engaged in a cosmic tug-of-war, each pulling in a different direction. Yet it is often this very tension that exposes the cracks beneath the surface. Perhaps it is through that tension that a new way forward emerges.
The opposition becomes especially significant because both Pluto and Jupiter speak to power, though they express it differently. Pluto governs power that operates behind the scenes, beneath the surface, often through invisible systems and hidden forces. Jupiter governs visible authority expressed through leadership, reputation, and influence.
In this configuration, Pluto is in Aquarius, the sign of the collective, while Jupiter is in Leo, the sign of kings, heroes, and individual leadership. Jupiter in Leo celebrates bold, charismatic figures who inspire others through confidence, generosity, and vision. Pluto in Aquarius, however, shifts our attention away from the individual and toward the collective. It asks whether power should remain concentrated in a select few or become more widely distributed.
A few days after the outer planets form a Basket configuration, Jupiter passes through the heart of the Sun, a phenomenon known as cazimi. It may suggest a changing of the guard and the emergence of a new kind of leadership.
I believe we are gradually leaving behind an era of placing celebrities, politicians, and billionaires on pedestals and moving toward one that values individual sovereignty and collective responsibility. Symbolically, the astrology of July points to a gradual redistribution of power rather than its concentration in a select few.
Many people may also become more attuned to their intuition. Instead of relying on priests, gurus, influencers, or other authorities to tell them what is true, they may place greater trust in direct experience. When that happens, institutions that have shaped society for centuries may begin to lose their hold.
This has both benefits and drawbacks. It will give rise to empowered individuals—people who take responsibility for their own lives and become the building blocks of an emerging new society. The downside is that there may no longer be a force strong enough to bind society together as it once did. And what usually follows? Chaos. Perhaps chaos is simply the threshold we must cross before something new can be born.
Pluto in Aquarius also speaks to technology and the collective mind, while Jupiter in Leo represents the heart, human creativity, and authentic self-expression. One of the defining questions of this opposition may be our relationship with artificial intelligence. Will we continue allowing AI to think, decide, or create on our behalf? Or will we reclaim the uniquely human capacities of imagination, intuition, and creativity? The tension between these two planets suggests that technological advancement and human authenticity may not always move in the same direction. Perhaps the answer lies somewhere in between. Only time will tell.
As mentioned earlier, Uranus is another key player in this story. Modern astrologers often associate Uranus with the archetype of Prometheus. In Greek mythology, Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity, a gift that forever changed the course of civilization. This initiation may likewise bring a Promethean gift.
What qualifies as a Promethean gift? Imagine discovering a technology capable of eliminating disease, producing limitless clean energy, or growing a forest in a matter of weeks. It would feel less like an ordinary invention and more like forbidden knowledge suddenly placed in humanity’s hands.
Could it be an unexpected scientific breakthrough? Could it be technology of non-human origin, whether recovered, reverse-engineered, or openly shared? Could it be a divine revelation of some kind? Or perhaps the awakening of dormant human abilities that have always existed within us? I don’t know for sure. But whatever it is, I have a strong feeling it will be so transformative that it could reshape civilization itself.
We are also still under the influence of the recent Saturn-Neptune conjunction at 0° Aries, an astrologically rare event in its own right. The conjunction of Saturn and Neptune points to the restructuring of our ideals and the revelation of what was once hidden. This era is likely to be characterized by deception, disclosure, and competing ideals.
While this is peak July astrology, the story does not end there. The slower-moving planets Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto will continue forming supportive aspects with one another over the next few years, creating what some astrologers refer to as a mini grand trine. The lunar nodes will also shift to the Leo–Aquarius axis at the end of July, bringing an added sense of fate and destiny into the mix. And in August, eclipse season begins, setting the stage for the next chapter of this unfolding story.
Perhaps July is not the culmination but the planting of a seed whose full significance will only become visible with time.
If this initiation teaches us to reclaim our own discernment, question inherited systems, and imagine new possibilities, then perhaps that is how the relaunch of civilization begins: not through the rise of a new system, but through the collapse of our faith in the old one.
The Personal Initiation
The Barbault’s Basket is not only a collective initiation. It is also a deeply personal rite of passage. This alignment will activate everyone to some degree. Those with a Sun, Moon, or Ascendant in the fire signs (Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius) or air signs (Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius), as well as anyone with natal planets between 0 and 6 degrees of any sign, are likely to feel it most strongly.
As an Aries Rising with an Aries Moon and a Libra Sun at 6 degrees, I’ll definitely feel this alignment strongly on an elemental level. My axis of destiny, the Vertex and Anti-Vertex, will also be highly activated, while transiting Saturn moves into an applying conjunction with my Ascendant. It feels like the beginning of an important personal initiation.
Although each person’s experience will be different, the underlying invitation is the same.
Under this sky, we may discover who we truly are and what we are here to do. Pluto strips away everything non-essential until only what is true remains. Neptune reminds us of the deeper ideals and longings of our soul. Uranus shakes us awake and frees us from stagnation. Jupiter encourages us to trust our inner authority and live with greater purpose. Together, these planets awaken us to the unique role we are meant to play in the collective transformation.
That awakening is not always comfortable. Pluto demands radical honesty, while Jupiter expands whatever it touches. Together, they make it almost impossible to ignore what we’ve been avoiding. For some, this may not feel like positive astrology at all.
Our deepest dissatisfactions and frustrations may suddenly become impossible to ignore. At the same time, our desire for authenticity and purpose may become too strong to suppress. Suddenly, we may feel more ambitious, convinced we know exactly where we’re headed. Then unexpected resistance may force us to rethink our approach.
That resistance does not necessarily mean we are on the wrong path. It may simply be redirecting us toward a wiser, more creative, or more authentic way of getting there. When Mercury stations direct on July 24, our path may become clearer, and things may begin moving forward again.
But not everyone is ready for this kind of revelation. The most authentic path is rarely the easiest. Following our deepest truth may mean abandoning an old dream, letting go of cherished ideals, changing careers, ending a relationship, shifting alliances, or becoming a completely different person. In the process, we may break our own hearts or someone else’s. That kind of transformation is rarely painless. Yet it is often through that pain that a more authentic life begins.
An opportunity may present itself that changes the trajectory of our lives. If the past few months have felt slow or stagnant, this configuration may mark a dramatic shift in momentum, especially with so much emphasis on the fire and air signs. Events could rapidly unfold. Suddenly, everything we’ve been working toward may begin to fall into place.
Yet every meaningful opportunity comes with a choice. Do we choose what is familiar and convenient, or what feels genuinely meaningful? Do we live the life expected of us, or the life that feels true? Ultimately, do we follow the mind or the heart? Some of us may need to course-correct years of misalignment and rediscover the path our soul has been quietly calling us toward all along. If we don’t choose honestly this time, the consequences may echo far into the future.
Remember, the Basket is built primarily on sextiles. Opportunity is present, but it still requires participation. The sky opens the door. Destiny may be offering an invitation. Whether we accept it is entirely up to us.
If this resonates with you, you don’t have to navigate this initiation alone. I’ve created a guided journey to help you consciously work with these energies rather than simply react to them.
Join me for a special group journey, UNLOCK THE CODES OF DESTINY, this July, as we consciously align with the blessings of the Barbault’s Basket. Together, we will descend into Pluto’s pool of transformation, be ignited by Neptune’s sacred flame, awaken within Uranus’ chamber of initiation, and finally receive Jupiter’s wisdom.
